Dr. Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was a Russian physiologist and experimental psychologist. He received the Nobel Prize in Physiology in 1904. His best known text is Conditioned Reflexes(Book), a collection of his lectures on the subject.

Pavlov used a variety of methods, such as the conditioned salivary reflex method, in his study of neuroses and psychoses. Dogs were generally used as subjects in these experiments. Pavlov was primarily interested in how the cortex works to facilitate the organism's adaptation to the external environment.
