CS - A stimulus for which a particular response (CR) must be learned (conditioned). In classical conditioning, CS are temporarily paired with unconditioned stimuli (US). The organism "learns" the conditioned response by associating the conditioned stimulus (CS) with the unconditioned stimulus (US). Once the conditioned response is learned, the organism will respond to the CS in the same way it inherently responds to the US.
