Reverse Transcription

The reverse of transcription. A means by which a segment of RNA is converted into a segment of DNA by reverse transcriptase. It is first converted to a complimentary single-stranded segment of DNA, which is then completed (also by the reverse-transcriptase), with its complimentary strand. The now complete (but short) segment of DNA is then spliced into the DNA of the host cell (in the case of a virus) via another enzyme called integrase.
