5-hydroxytryptamine
5-HT, or Serotonin - is both a neurotransmitter and a hormone. Serotonin is produced from the amino acid tryptophan. This is hydroxylated and converted within the neuron into 5-hydroxytryptophan, which is then decarboxylated to produce 5-HT.
